The source image came from a stack of 20 corona shots that I photographed in Tennessee during the 2017 solar eclipse. From there some magic happened at the computer and the result was this image. Stunning detail and tonality in the 64 inch master file are a sight to behold.

Two different telescopes and cameras were used to create a composite that preceded this creation. One camera captured the eclipse and the other the starfield mid-eclipse, but the stars were captured during the new moon.

Mandalas
Created in 2019: Limited Edition Mandalas.
After over 20 years as an astrophotographer, I have left my purist roots behind in pursuit of this new body of work. To my knowledge space mandalas have never been produced, so this art is likely the first of its kind.
The following mandalas are derived from astro-images that I have made since 2015. Each piece is handcrafted from scratch as I carefully scrutinize each twist and turn of its development while never adding anything to the images. Sometimes I may subtract some stars for a particular effect but I always use the entire source image, never just a slice. In this regard, the mandalas are true to the source images.
Since mandalas represent the universe and infinity, as does space, it seems this body of work is a perfect match. Available as large metal prints upon request.
